The Bailey's: 2009

On December 19, 2009 Bailey finally popped the question. He had made plans a long time ago to go to Jasper's at the Shops of Legacy to eat dinner to celebrate my 25th birthday with just us. Little did I know he was planning an engagement dinner. We had dinner reservations at 7:00, and towards the end of dinner he ask me if I wanted to go out to the big Christmas tree and take a picture. Being the picture lover that I am, of course I said yes! As soon as we stepped outside of the restaurant I realized that I was freezing, and I ended up saying that I was just going to take a picture of the tree by itself. I took the picture and we started walking back towards the car when Bailey says "Look at the ground that we are walking on, it's brick." I am thinking that's great Bails, but I am cold and I want to go back to the car. He said "Come on lets dance right here! You have always wanted to dance on a brick road." Which has been something I have always said since watching the movie "The Notebook," that is my favorite part in that movie. Even though it was something I'd always wanted I was to cold to want to dance, so we continued walking back to the car. In my head I am thinking "warmth" and in Bailey's head he is thinking, "How am I going to fix my plan that didn't work?" We keep walking back to the car and I guess Bailey decided it was his last chance to propose on a brick road, so as soon as we are about to be in the parking garage he says "Come on lets dance right here," and I look at him like he is crazy because we so close to the car. Needless to say, we don't dance and we get to the car. I am so excited to be in the car, and Bailey is just trying to decide what he is going to do now since he didn't follow through with his original plan. We drove over to Frisco Square to look at the lights that play to Christmas music, and then we headed home. We walk in the door and Bailey is says "Okay, now that it is warm- let's dance here." (Keep in mind there is no music playing, so once again I look at him like he is crazy.) He looks at me and says "Why don't you go in and put on your comfy clothes and we can watch the rest of the Cowboy's game on the couch. I go into the bedroom and I put on my Iowa Hawkeye pajama pants, Hawkeyes sweat shirt and socks. As I stepped out into the living room there is Bailey down on one knee. I looked at him and said "What are you doing?" He told me to come here, so I did. He looks at me and he is so nervous that he can barely breathe, and he says " My original plan didn't work out like I wanted it to, so I am going to ask you here and now in our apartment. I told you a long time ago that I loved you, and that one of the reasons I knew I loved you was because I couldn't imagine waking up to anyone else. I still have that same feeling Emily Nicole. I want to ask you right here if you will be my wife. I never want to wake up next to anyone else for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?" I am still looking at him in shock when finally I say "Yes!!" He had to take of the pearl ring that he gave me a long time ago, and as he is taking the pearl ring off and putting on my new beautiful engagement ring, he looks at me and says "Wait, you did say yes didn't you?" I looked at him and laughed and said "Of course, I said yes!" We sat down to watch the end of the Cowboys vs. Saints game at home (The Cowboys won!), and then began calling family and friends. We went back to the Shops of Legacy to take pictures at the places where Bailey had planned on proposing. We took photos infront of the tree and restaurant like we were re-living the moment. We went to meet Courtney, Zach, Al and Victoria at our favorite karaoke bar, Outer Marker, to celebrate our engagement after almost 4 years of dating!

For those of you that know Bailey really well, you will understand that this proposal is completely Bailey! He was so nervous that I was going to say no, which I am not sure why, that he just couldn't build up enough guts to follow through with his plan. It a funny story to tell now, and I couldn't of ask for a more perfect proposal for him.
